Research
For her dissertation research at the University of California at Berkeley, Kelly Turner, PhD conducted an original research project on the "Spontaneous" Remission of cancer, which is a remission that occurs in the absence of Western medicine, or after such treatment has failed to remit the disease.
While Dr. Turner is herself a proponent of Western oncology approaches to cancer treatment, such as chemotherapy, radiation, and surgery, as a researcher she is interested in studying anomalies and trying to understand why they happen. Therefore, for her dissertation, Dr. Turner interviewed 50 traditional and alternative healers from 11 different countries about their approaches to cancer treatment. She also interviewed 20 people who had personally experienced a "Spontaneous" Remission, and asked them why they believed they healed. These 70, hour-long, in-depth interviews were then transcribed and analyzed for common themes, a type of scientific research known as Qualitative Analysis. This kind of exploratory research is the first scientific step in exploring anomalies.
